A Comeback to Flip Over - February 27, 2009 - Baltimoresun.com Because the image is frozen on my computer screen, the fear is burned into my brain. I still get somewhat scared visiting the dentist, so maybe I'm the last guy to rationalize why this motorcycle is upside down, 20feet above the ground. From Jim DeChamp to Nike's Lightning Bolts art show - ESPN The Magazine Right now Jim DeChamp is probably best known for being Travis Pastrana's best friend. That's because his two-wheeled X Games career consists of exactly one ill-fated run this summer. The result? A broken back and a return date with the drawing board. But recently DeChamp became the first person to land a front flip on dirt (okay, it was mulch) while taping for Pastrana's new show Nitro Circus which debuts on MTV in February. He recently called us from location (something about wave runners in Malibu) to fill us in on his historic moment and what it was like to step out of Travis' shadow. At least for a little while. 5 Minutes with... Travis Pastrana - November 14, 2008 - Racer X Jim is doing fine after the broken back and is filming as part of the Nitro Circus with the other cast members Street Bike Tommy, Jolene van Vugt, Eric Roner and Andy Bell. He's tough and I think his pride was hurt more than his broken back. Jim can front flip almost anything and adapted so quick to flipping the motorcycle that I thought it wouldn't be difficult to learn. I was wrong! The foam pit is softer than dirt but you can only take so many lawn darts with a 220-pound bike on top of you. That trick is not for me. Transition: Jim DeChamp - June 19, 2008 - EXPN If you've ever watched a Nitro Circus video, you know the name Jim DeChamp. He's one of TP's partners in crime, a nasty BASE jumper, a sick mountain biker, and tenured stuntman for the Nitro Circus. Last weekend, Jim headed up to Canada which seems to be the ultra-secret location where people try rally for the first time. No one seems to know where Canada is—that's why it is secret. Jim DeChamp Throws Front Flip at X Games Moto, Gets Crushed - April 1, 2008 - Banquet Action Sports Digital Network Anyone who has been involved in mountain biking for the last few years recognizes the name Jim DeChamp. Back in 2004/2005 he was making the rounds as a top dual slalom racer and street/dirt rider. One thing that always kept him on the radar was his ability to throw ridiculous tricks seemingly out of nowhere. One instance in particular was at the Red Bull Boston Bike Battle (alliteration!) where he attempted a front flip over a step up. Travis Pastrana and the Nitro Circus Crew ride Costa Rica! - March 25, 2008 - Transworld Motocross After several hours of ramp adjustments and waiting for the weather to change, the “Crew” decided to go for it. Jim DeChamp (Nitro Crew Member) was the first to give it a try. He had a hard time to get the bike up to speed as the approach was so steep and slippery. He reached the lake edge and “skimmed” across the lake just to the base of the ramp, at that time the bike’s front tire sank into the five feet deep water and DeChamp went over the handle bars and slapped his body against the face of the floating ramp. He had very good body protection and did not receive any injuries.
